My first trip to the opal fields was in 1960 , my father had built a shack at Coober Pedy In South Australia .It was very busy in those days (like a gold rush) plenty of opal and plenty of room to work,. I began mining in 1969.with little success . In December of that year I fell down a mine shaft 58 feet .That was the end of mining for me. I became an opal cutter in late 1970,contract cutting triplets it was very busy for about 10 years. In the late 70’s I was manufacturing jewellery and wholesaling to the tourist company’s , I was always interested in EBAY but did not have the computer skills. my partner and I began cutting boulder opal triplets. This venture was very rewarding in that we were the first to do it , unfortunately it did not sell as fast as we had hoped. We changed to COOBER PEDY OPAL with instant success , We learnt computer skills and set up a store on EBAY. The business is growing from strength to strength ,we buy opal direct from Coober Pedy and cut it in our own workshop, we have the most modern equipment available so we can cut OPAL very efficiently, We sell opal in our store at wholesale prices, and we start our auction items at below wholesale prices.
